Pre Burn rituals

So anyone have any interesting pre fire performing rituals? I like to try and center my breathing and see myself outside of my body. Sort of like a runners high, it kinda engages my adrenaline and push's my senses to ON!

Depending on the tool and such, I like to do a little bathing. I wash my hands so that I get a consistent grip, and if I'll be breathing, I like to run wet fingers though my hair. If I'm doing stunt breathing, I'll use fire resistant gel in my hair, wash, and flame test my clothing.

Sometimes i don't get the time i'd like because i'm fueling and setting up. I always like the strawberry milk before i breath.

How does one fire test their clothing?

Hold a flame to the article for a couple seconds and see what happens.

I like to jump in the ocean first, if I'm spinning on the beach. Helps keep my hair from burning, and gives me a bit of connection to the place I'm at.

I also like to stretch my ass of first, and while I'm dipping my staff I constantly rotate it so that it doesn't drip and can maintain a maximum amount of fuel for a big spinoff...

Didnt even think about it but ya i guess that counts huh? i do it too also i wait for all the bubbles to stop and my spin offs are usually 3-4 moderate to strong shakes on each side.

It also helps when dipping your eating wands to use a rag to keep the white gas from running down the handle, that only happens once, but it was a cool transfer from one end to the other.

Pre-burn ritual...yes we all have them.
I personally like to set up the fueling station myself, then check all the spotters/gear,
and then I go through a mental checklist of it all...some of the things seem sort of anal to the untrained eye,
but it keeps my audience, venue, performers and myself from having to deal with pain...
...Then I start herding the flaming cats...
On tools, it's all about the bubbles.

When our fire troupe performs together. We will set up our stations and get our music ready.

Then we huddle up in a circle and do some alternate breathing so we can all be in the same rithum so to speak.

I have found that this helps. It gives us that last chance to slow down relax and visualize what we are trying to do,and thats have fun.

On a personal note. I like to crank up my I pod, and do alot of flow work before I spin.

What do you use for gel? I have long hair and that is always my biggest concern. I put it up, but just in case something should fall out, it would be great to know I have an extra layer of protection.

I have found that LA Looks Mega Hold (green or yellow) when applied as directed (to wet hair, comb, air dry or style) is reasonably fire resistant. Not sure why, but I've actually had a lamp oil mist flash back roll up over my head without singing a hair.

Mice thing about flame testing your clothing is that you only have to do it the once.... unless you use a garment that isn't fire resistant and you have to re-treat it every time you wash it.

It never happens this way, but I really like to take a second. look at the area around me and breath. I usually do a dry run with my fire gear to get a feel for how my body is and how im planning to move. This also give me a chance to check my tools and make sure everything is ok. I really like to set up my fuel dump and everything myself. Unless someone I know well and trust is setting up but I will still check everything twice. My first burn is usually pretty sloppy but after that im pretty on lol.
